If you thought the Ford Ranger Raptor 2023 is a truly rugged off-road vehicle, US tuning outfit Hennessey has upped the ante and turned the dual-cab ute into a dirt-road beast, and it comes with a complete guarantee.
After the new Ford Ranger was revealed for the US market earlier this month, Texas-based company Hennessey, which has previously produced high-performance F-150 pickup trucks, Bronco SUVs, and its own record-breaking supercars, unveiled its customized version of the Ranger Raptor ute.
The dual-cab ute, which is referred to as a "mid-size pick-up" in the US, is known as the Hennessey VelociRaptor 500 Ranger. It shares a similar appearance to the Ranger Raptor upon which it is built.
Hennessey claims that the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine in the Ford Ranger Raptor has been upgraded with a "high-flow air induction system, a larger front-mounted intercooler, and an engine management software upgrade". This engine currently produces 292kW in Australia and 302kW in the US due to different measurement standards.
Due to this, the VelociRaptor 500 generates 373kW (or 500 horsepower) and 746Nm, which is an increase of 71kW and 163Nm in comparison to Ford Ranger Raptors shipped to North America.
The 10-speed automatic transmission and the full-time, low-range four-wheel-drive system with locking front and rear differentials that come standard on the Ranger Raptor remain unaltered.
VelociRaptor-specific bumpers, LED off-road lights, custom 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with 35-inch off-road tyres (up from 17-inch wheels and 33-inch tyres on the standard model), and "VelociRaptor 500" badges are among the cosmetic changes included in the VelociRaptor package. There are no other changes made under the body.
The Ranger Raptor's interior has been updated to include 'Hennessey' embroidered headrests, all-weather floor mats, and a custom build plaque with the vehicle's serial number.
